Rigid PCBs

A Rigid PCB is a form of circuit board which is solid and inflexible, effectively preventing the board from warping. Rigid boards consist of several layers, including a substrate layer which acts as the base layer, a copper layer, a solder mask layer and a silk screen layer, bonded together using heat and an adhesive.

Rigid PCBs offer compact sizing, low electronic noise, immunity to movement owing to the solder flux used to connect the components to the board, and are also easy to repair.

Flexible PCBs

Also known as flex PCB, flexible PCBs are constructed using materials such as polyimide or polyester that allow them to bend or flex during use. They are thin, lightweight and, unlike rigid PCBs where components must fit the size of the circuit board, designed to fit the electronic product itself, bending into small spaces and contoured shapes.

Surface finishes
