A year of major growth in contract electronics manufacturing

As 2018 draws to a close, we can look back on a productive and successful year at MPE Electronics – a year in which we have continued to grow and strengthen our customer relationships.

The past 12 months have seen electronics product manufacturers increasingly outsource printed circuit board (PCB) and product assembly to contract electronics manufacturers, with MPE cementing our position as a leading supplier of these services in the UK.

A year of major investment for MPE Electronics

This year has been one of major investment for MPE Electronics. We have spent significantly on our facilities, equipment, technology and skills in response to industry trends and advances, and to maintain our ability to consistently deliver market-leading PCB and product assembly supplier services to our customers.

In the first half of the year, we purchased a new 4,000 sq. ft. facility to expand our manufacturing base and, in particular, our PCB assembly capacity. At the same time, we invested in a number of new pieces of technology. This state-of-the-art equipment includes a new surface mount assembly line, which incorporates a high-speed Mycronic MY300DX pick-and-place machine; a Mydata SMD Tower 6150-15, which holds 800 reels of components in a temperature-controlled environment; and a Europlacer ALD625 automatic inspection machine.

In addition, we purchased a new selective soldering machine, increasing our capacity in this area. Capable of running for up to 10 hours a day with minimal human contact, the machine delivers highly repeatable results and increases efficiency. We also invested in an overhaul of our IT equipment, with new hardware and software adding greater speed and efficiency to our processes.

2018 also saw us invest in our team, including the expansion of our quotation, engineering and shopfloor teams. Our employees are a great source of pride – we put a strong focus on training and creating a supportive environment for our staff members. They play a vital role in delivering the high standards of product quality and customer service for which we are renowned.

Strengthening customer relationships across the industry spectrum

Our investment in quality and customer satisfaction over the year has helped us establish new customer relationships and strengthen existing ones, consolidating our reputation across the industry spectrum. The growth of our relationship with the rail industry, to which we supply bespoke manufacturing services, is a good example of this development.

However, it was not all plain sailing in 2018. A global shortage of electronics components has been another key trend during the year and we have had to manage the impact of this disruption on the supply channel. We are better positioned than most, with a sizeable stock, a strong supplier network and cutting-edge software that lets us view stock availability on a global scale. No-one has been able to escape the effects of the shortage but MPE continues to work hard to manage supplies for our customers, keeping them regularly updated on availability and project progress.

Looking ahead to 2019

2018 has been a productive 12 months for MPE Electronics, with the successful completion of the first part of our three-year growth plan. But we are not a company that believes in standing still and we are already busy planning for 2019 and a new year of investment in our company and our customers.
